Why did you decide to pursue a postgraduate course?
Having worked full time in the NHS for more than 20 years, I was looking for a qualification that would underpin my experience and help me to develop both academically and professionally. The course at Edge Hill University appeared unique in comparison to other similar courses I had considered, and its modules reflected a lot of the things I am responsible for.
Tell us a bit about the course…
The best thing about the course has been its relevance to IT managers; those who are just starting their careers and established professionals alike. It supports your approach to information security and IT strategy and the development of departments and staff. The modules studied are diverse and allow you to take a holistic view of IT management and data protection within an organisation. They enable you to discover how to approach legal and organisational requirements in a logical and informed manner, so you can deliver a safe and effective service.
Why would you recommend this course to prospective students?
If you are looking to take the next step, or fast-tracking your advancement, within the IT industry, then this is the course for you. Studying this course has given me the ability to move onto the next stage of my career within the NHS and has inspired me to develop further in the field of information security. It has given me the impetus to help to lead my organisation in the implementation of best practice around corporate and, more importantly, patient data management. The course has enabled me to develop academically, professionally, and personally, leaving me with a desire to push my learning and understanding even further. The last two years have allowed me to study subjects relevant to the IT industry on a daily basis, while learning in an environment that is fun, inclusive, informative and supportive.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I feel so lucky to have undertaken this MSc - not only have I become a better IT manager, I also have the ability to further develop my department and organisation. As well as this, I have been provided with a framework to build on as my career develops in the future.
