Rosyth is home to our Liquid Gas Equipment (LGE) business and our commercial gas handling operations. Babcock’s LGE business is a world leader in the delivery of customer focused solutions for the transportation and storage of liquefied gas in the marine environment. Our end-customers include major worldwide shipyards and ship owners.

On this graduate programme, you’ll be responsible for innovative design work in support of winning and delivering large scale process-engineering themed projects.

You’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders across the business and in industry, giving you the opportunity to develop both technically and commercially. You’ll immediately be owning and delivering elements of live project work, with the close support and supervision of an experienced and skilled team. It is a fast paced, exciting, and rewarding programme.

Mechanical Engineering LGE at Babcock

Working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplined team, you’ll be responsible for delivering complex and efficient process piping arrangements, with their associated cargo machinery, for integration on-board ocean-going vessels. Outputs can include the design of structural modules containing process equipment such as compressors, pumps and heat exchangers for use with liquified gas cargoes at temperatures down to -162⁰C.

Safety, quality, and innovation will be central to everything you do. You will influence safe product design through the application of robust processes and design techniques. You’ll own your own projects and deliver them with the support of an industry leading team of colleagues. Marine gas handling plants are safety critical systems and you’ll have the opportunity to influence design input on an array of project deliverables through tasks such as; engineering calculations; pipe stress analysis (including FEA) and reporting; pressure vessel design; operating manual creation; HAZID and HAZOP safety workshop participation; mechanical equipment sizing and specification; systems engineering; customer collaboration.

You can also help shape digitally focused solutions that drive process plant efficiencies and uptime.

What we are looking for

A BEng (Hons) degree. And because the programme may be accredited by the IMechE, IET, RINA (RP) and IMarEST, it is desirable that your degree is accredited by one of those institutions too.
