Overview

Whether you're looking for a career where you can make a difference, or you're already employed in a teaching role and looking to start your postgraduate journey, our Further Education and Training PGCE will give you the skills and confidence to be a successful teacher in the further education and training sector.

When you graduate from the course, you'll have a recognised teaching qualification so you can work as a teacher in the further education and training sector, predominantly with students aged 16 and above. You'll develop your knowledge knowledge by working closely with your course teachers and work-based subject mentors.

We have an Outstanding rating from Ofsted for our Further Education teacher training programmes, so when you graduate you'll be in a strong position to find work as a teacher in the further education and training sector.

This Further Education and Training PGCE is available as a full-time programme on our campus. If you're already working in the field, you can choose to study on a part-time basis at one of our partner colleges (Havant and South Downs College, Chichester College (Chichester or Crawley campus), Isle of Wight College and South Hampshire College Group - Eastleigh Campus). While studying at our partner colleges, you can access our student support services and community including study support, the Students’ Union and our library's online resources.

Work experience and career planning

When you graduate, you'll be qualified to work in further and higher education. The course is also eligible for conversion to Qualified Teacher Status.

The PGCE is a professional teaching qualification which is recognised by further education providers in the UK. PGCE graduates can also apply to the Society for Education & Training (SET) to gain QTLS.

We'll provide you with as much support as possible in finding employment through close industrial contacts, careers events, recruitment fairs and individual advice. We'll also help you practice to deliver a good application and interview.

After you leave the University, you can get help, advice and support for up to 5 years from our Careers and Employability service as you advance in your career.
