Get Into Teaching is a free service provided by the Department for Education to give information and advice on teaching. The service itself encompasses everything from personal statement guidance, to finding school experience, to help with your application; supported by a dedicated teacher training adviser who is on hand to assist you at every step.

Good teachers are in demand, and there are excellent employment prospects for new teachers. To add to this, you'll have the chance to make a real impact, shaping young lives all whilst shaping your own - through a career that packs development, growth and endless opportunity.

Why become a teacher?

Teaching is rewarding- in more ways than one.

Once you've qualified, you'll benefit from a competitive starting salary of at least £30,000, or more in London. . You'll also have opportunities for rapid career progression, pay increases and be entitled to a generous pension.

Whilst you train, there are generous tax-free bursaries and scholarships available for those wishing to train in a number of key subjects. Follow this link to find out about financial support.

Teachers are also afforded much more holiday than most careers. Love what you do in term time, and love what you do outside of it.

Training and development

Once you have your degree, there are different ways to undertake teacher training

You can either:

• Study at a university as a postgraduate student
• Train as you teach at a school or group of schools

Whichever route you choose, your training will largely be the same.

Some teacher training programmes also offer you the chance to earn a salary. There is also funding available depending on which subject you choose to teach

What we are looking for

We are looking for high-quality, passionate graduates that want to make their degree, knowledge and skills really count, using your creativity to bring your subject to life. You'll be committed to ensuring that all pupils have the chance to fulfil their potential in a subject that can change their lives for the better.

To train to teach as a teacher at secondary level, you'll need a degree, and a standard equivalent GCSE grade 4 (C) in Maths and English.

Once you have a degree or equivalent qualification, you're ready for postgraduate primary or secondary initial teacher training courses.

You also need the following GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, or equivalent qualifications:

• English
• maths
• science if you want to teach primary
