About Institute for Media and Creative Industries

The Institute for Media and Creative Industries is dedicated to sharing critical understandings and developments of the media and creative industries, along with insights into the broader economic, social and political issues facing each area.

London is one of the world’s principal hubs for media and communication and is the primary destination for many national and international agencies operating in the media and creative industries. Loughborough University London is located in East London, which is home to more artists and creatives than anywhere else in Europe.

Programmes in this area will give students a professional understanding of how the media and creative industries work, along with critical insights into the broader economic, social and political issues at stake. This Institute will be dedicated to the principal media and creative industries; music, the press, radio, film, television, electronic games, literature, museums, drama, dance, art, tourism, journalism, and the internet.

Industry Exposure

Based in the former Olympic International Broadcast Centre, our neighbours include BT Sport broadcasting company, owners of Europe's largest Sport TV studios. Along with providing a strong theoretical foundation, these connections mean that the programme can also offer unique opportunities for students to gain industry exposure and insights into the practical aspects of the media industry.

Master's Programmes

Our Media and Creative Industries programmes will equip you with the knowledge and skills to work in a variety of communication roles within public, private or third-sector companies, ranging from sport, gaming, and technology to press, policy and community-led initiatives.

Research

Research is a crucial part of our work and underpins our ability to deliver teaching at the forefront of our discipline. Research students will have the opportunity to work with top researchers and industry leaders, and gain first-hand experience of real life problem solving. Presentation of research findings at key national and international conferences will be an important part of students’ training. You will engage with research communities across the globe and will become be part of a talented research community.

The Institute maintains a strong interest in the relationships between media and communication and technological, social and cultural change. Current research considers the implications of technological transformations and social change, including social, cultural, political and economic relationships and movements, as well as social media and activism in contemporary and historical contexts.
