Graduate Application Support Analyst

Job description

The Application Support Analyst at Sinara is responsible for keeping these systems running, working very closely with our clients’ technical and support teams to resolve operational issues and understand root cause.

At Sinara we encourage teamwork, aided by our high standards and our compact size where everyone knows everyone else. This is supported by our regular company seminars, lunches, and other events. A consequence of this is that everyone knows they are valued by the company.

Sinara is currently looking for talented graduates to join our application support team. If you want to pursue a career working with financial applications and technology systems and are a graduate, you might like to apply to join us as a Graduate Application Support Analyst.

If you have some years’ experience in the IT sector and are looking to move on from your current position, you are also welcome to apply.

Successful applicants will receive a starting salary of £32,000 - £35,000 per year, profit share bonus, 25 days paid holiday plus 8 bank holidays, private health insurance and other benefits.

Sinara gives you the chance to work on a variety of applications and support-related projects. You will be expected to rapidly develop your technical analytical skills along with your level of technical competence and client communication skills.

The primary responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Triage, assess and prioritise Incoming Support Incidents
  • Investigate and own assigned Incidents under supervision
  • Shadow colleagues for complex Incident investigation
  • Preparing reports, Incident reviews, and Wiki articles
  • Undertake application testing as part of the full test lifecycle
  • Assist material preparation for the Incident review sessions
  • Routine Maintenance technical tasks

The work is often technically demanding and may require an imaginative thought process. You will also work alongside Sinara’s own development teams before and after system deployment.

Career progression

A Graduate Application Support Analyst is expected to progress to the Application Support Analyst role within 9 to 12 months.

In the initial period, you will focus on learning the following skills:

  1. Troubleshooting skills
  2. MS SQL Server database management
  3. Functionality of all Sinara applications
  4. Reading, understanding and analysing application log files
  5. Use of various tools: E.g., Postman, Wireshark
  6. Atlassian applications management
  7. Analyse and prioritise incidents reported by our customers
  8. Develop strong communication skills
As you develop your skillset you will also have the opportunity to take responsibility within other company departments, in areas such as software development, business analysis and pre-sales.

All staff are actively encouraged to work on technical interests outside of client project work and you will be allocated time to do this if you so wish.

Industry knowledge training

  • Sinara will provide industry/domain knowledge training as well as application specific training. This includes an external online FSID course and internal training sessions.
  • It is expected that FSID course is completed within 6 months of joining.

What we are looking for

At the centre of Sinara's activities is software development and the technical support of these business-critical applications. So, you will need to demonstrate a good general knowledge of IT concepts, an excellent in-depth understanding of at least one area of IT and some understanding of databases and networking would be helpful.

You will need to exchange information and ideas not only with your colleagues but also with clients who may not always be as technically aware as you are. Therefore, you will need to possess excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.

We expect graduate applicants to have obtained, or realistically expect to obtain a 2:1 degree in a numerate subject.

To meet the challenges of the role, we need graduates who have a passion for solving all kinds of challenging IT problems, together with the aptitude and commitment to pick up new technical skills quickly and grasp new domain knowledge as and when needed. Although we work within the finance industry, a prior knowledge of this sector is not required.

You are a naturally inquisitive team player, a problem solver who is also self-motivated and able to use your own initiative to always be thinking about the bigger picture and the wider implications of the problems that you are working on. You demonstrate pride in your work and an excellent attention to detail, as well as effective time management and organisational skills.
