About The Event Academy

The Event Academy are the only Event Management course endorsed by The Chartered Institute of Marketing – the most recognised qualification in our industry.

Our goal is for every student to leave us with the practical, technical and most importantly, real-life skills needed to succeed in a career in events.

We believe in preparing our students for the real world, and to be ‘work ready’ by the end of their course – ready to go, able to progress, able to be useful to their employer from day one. Sadly, our experience is that most event management courses fail to equip students with the practical skills, knowledge and confidence needed to enter the workplace. By relying on theory and classroom-based learning, they fail to provide the practical, hands-on experience that is needed and students therefore leave unable to show an employer that they can ‘do the job’.

Based in London – our courses are available to study both in class, virtually or online providing students with options as to how to wish to learn.

Our live lectures take place in locations across central London providing each course with a rich variety of insights into recognised venues such as Tobacco Dock, The Business Design Centre, Rich Mix, The October Gallery, Temple Place and Tower Bridge. As part of the courses, our students also conduct Site Visits at agencies and venues including WRG and Spencer House.

Our lectures are delivered by highly experienced event professionals from all areas of the industry. Our Course Director, Rosie Ham worked as VP of Events Business at Goldman Sachs, Josef Jammerbund, previously Head of Events for London Fashion Week, lectures on Fashion & Private Parties and Jools Butterfield, Director of Vision 9 (Boardmasters and Naas) lectures on Festivals. These industry practitioners are up-to-date with the latest developments bring their expansive career experiences and stories to share with our students.

Team work is a critical skill of an event manager. To prepare for this, we ask you to work within small groups on projects and respond to a “real life” client brief brought in. Previous briefs have been from Pret a Manger, Net Jets, Adidas and EE Mobile Network. Your event ideas will then be presented back to the actual client, replicating a “real life” scenario. The final projects will also create a real event to answer a brief and with a set budget. The object is to raise money for our chosen charity – Teenage Cancer Trust and to date we have raised over £200,000.

Once you become a student at The Event Academy, you automatically get access to the webinar library and video resources covering diverse topics which are hosted by experts. On the online hub, you will be able to access slide decks of all the lectures, working templates (e.g. budgets, risk assessments, venue check list and how to guides) plus a recommended reading list; this not only includes text books but also references to industry blogs, vlogs and publications.

To help you develop an industry network and build experience, we offer Earn While You Learn and Volunteering Opportunities to all our students. You’ll have access to a monthly calendar of events to sign up for – some are volunteering, some are paid. Our calendar has blossomed into an enviable list covering all sectors of the industry including The Brit Awards, Secret Cinema, Boardmasters Festival, the LGBT Awards, British Summer Time Festival, The Un-Wedding Wedding Show, adidas City Runs, The London Marathon, Fashion Scout, MDNA Charity Ball, Wilderness Festival, UN Film Festival and TedX Brighton. The Jobs Board provides a chance to work within different types of events, add meaningful experience to CV’s, showcase skills and promote your enthusiasm for the events industry to potential employers.

Our Degree Alternative and Postgraduate courses include an optional three month work placement. We work closely with each student individually and have over 200 agencies, venues, charities, festival, fashion and corporate placement companies that are in contact with. Recent placement companies include Virgin Sport, Mama Festivals, The Department, Netjets, Bovingdon’s Catering, Clarion Gaming, The Proposers, Vision 9 Festivals, M&C Saatchi, WRG & Imagination.

We know that starting a new course can sometimes be daunting so we are here to help. The moment you sign up for a course you will become part of our student community and will be supported by our dedicated Student Services Team.

Entry requirements are flexible so we interview all our students prior to offering them a place (either in person or over the phone). We are looking for a number of things:

  • A positive, can-do attitude
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Previous, relevant event experience
  • Previous qualifications

It always helps to have some experience of events no matter how big or small. This will give you an idea of where you might like your career to take you in the event industry and give you an insight into the fundamentals of putting an event together. We do require students to be a minimum of 18 years old to study with us.

We offer a variety of payment plans and finance to allow you to spread the cost of the course over a period of months. Our Admissions Team are always ready to help you navigate the payment options available. There are no additional costs to our courses aside from the course fees. You will need access to a computer to access your course resources (via our online Student Hub) and complete your project work - you may need to bring a laptop to class.

Unfortunately we do not provide any student accommodation, however our Admissions Team can point you towards some useful websites to search for accommodation if you wish. Our courses are open to international students, however, we are unable to assist with or support visa applications as we are not a Tier 4 sponsor.
